Weighbridge Selection Guide

A short guide to choosing the right weighbridge based on capacity, platform length, installation type and software needs.

The right weighbridge is chosen based on the vehicles to be weighed, site conditions and your post-weighing workflow. The questions below help you clarify your needs before the site survey.

1. What is your heaviest vehicle?

Capacity is determined by the heaviest loaded vehicle to be weighed, with some margin added. For trucks and tractor-trailer combinations, 60 or 80 tons is common; lighter trucks and tractors may be served by lower capacities.

2. What should the platform length be?

The entire vehicle must be on the platform at the same time. For truck weighing, 16–18 meters is generally preferred; longer trailers may require longer platforms. Weighing on a short platform axle by axle is prone to errors.

3. Surface-mounted or pit type?

  • Surface-mounted: No excavation required, installation is fast, and cleaning under the platform is easy; ramps need additional space.
  • Pit type: The platform is level with the ground, no ramps are needed; it is advantageous in tight areas and for drive-through access from every direction, but drainage must be planned carefully.

4. Site conditions

High groundwater, flood risk, corrosive environments (salt, fertilizer, chemicals) and heavy dust directly affect the installation type, material selection and protection choices.

5. What happens after weighing?

If you need receipts, delivery notes, invoices, inventory or ERP integration, the weighbridge software and automation options should be planned from the start. If license plate recognition, barriers and unattended weighing infrastructure are considered during installation, adding them later becomes much easier.
