“We have an inspection, so calibration isn't necessary” is a common misconception we often encounter. Periodic legal inspection checks whether the scale is within tolerance at a specific moment. Calibration, on the other hand, allows you to monitor the scale's accuracy regularly and catch deviations early.
Recommended intervals
- More than 50 weighings per day: check every 6 months
- Medium usage: check once a year
- Low usage: check once a year, plus a preliminary check before inspection
Calibration required before the interval when:
- A load cell, junction box or indicator is replaced
- The platform is removed, moved or subjected to impact
- After lightning, flooding or overloading
- Different results are obtained for the same vehicle in consecutive weighings
- Your customer or supplier disputes the weighing difference
What does calibration provide?
A scale that has lost its sensitivity produces a small loss in every weighing without anyone noticing. For a business that buys, this means overpayment; for one that sells, it means undercollection. Regular calibration prevents this silent loss and turns your weighing records into a reliable document in case of disputes.
